Ballybay Tidy Towns

Spring is here and Ballybay Tidy Towns group are planning activities to improve the appearance of various areas in the town. We would like to inform residents of items that may be of interest to them. Funding is now available through Monaghan County Council under the Community & Environment Funding Scheme. Application forms are available from MCC or from BTT committee members. If you have a residence committee in your estate or if you wish to form a residence committee you can apply for funding if you have a project that would enhance the appearance or improve the quality of the environment in your area. BTT can help you with your application.

Following our three year plan for the town, one of the recommendations in that plan was to commission a piece of art work in the form of a sculpture. Suggestions so far has been; a Sculpture of a birch tree – evoking Ballybay’s name and origins – the mouth of the ford of the birch trees; A Sculpture of a cow or a horse evoking Ballybay’s importance as a market town or industries such as Blacksmithing to Agriculture in the Ballybay area. You may have other ideas for this sculpture, so we would like to hear from you.

Our plans this year is to purchase a number of three tier planters to place them on the approach roads in the town and to erect hanging baskets and enhance the bridge area at Lough Mor Ave. We will be getting cigarette bins for publicans to erect outside their premises to reduce the number of cigarette butts on the streets. We will be engaging with schools on a possible environmental friendly project. Regular litter picking will commence again once weather allows and as evenings gets brighter.

So we will be busy and we need your help. If you would like to join the Ballybay Tidy Towns we would greatly appreciate any time you can give to us. Please contact any committee member if you have any ideas for the sculpture or if you wish to give us a hand in any way.
