Welcome to Ballybay.ie

Welcome to the Ballybay website, a site to provide both locals and visitors with current and update information about the town of Ballybay and the local community, including local directories, sport and tourism and coverage of all local events.

Ballybay is situated 10 miles from Monaghan which is the county town. Ballybay is a town of unique form and character surrounded by rolling green hills and plentiful lakes and wetlands, with fine buildings and store fronts, a legacy from its linen and horse fair days.

The beauty of the place is still best described in Lewis's Topographical Dictionary of Ireland, 1837, “Its surface is studded with lakes and boldly diversified with hills and dales. The approach to the town opens upon an extremely beautiful and picturesque tract of country. To the east are seen, at the distance of 20 miles, the deep blue summits of the lofty Slievegullion, with the village, about a quarter of a mile beneath, apparently embosomed in hills and situated on the margin of a lake a mile in diameter, which forms its boundary on the east and south, and is itself bounded by a rich amphitheatre of woods.”

It boasts a buzzing local scene with businesses and services to suit everyone’s needs, not to mention numerous outdoor activities, most notably the local lakes, which are internationally famed for their pike as well as for their birdlife.

Lough Major which is situated next to the town has beautiful and peaceful walkways and fishing points, as well as the new Town Park, which contains a new playground, community centre and a bowling green.

So if your not lucky enough to live here already, come and visit and explore the selections that Ballybay has to offer!

The first Annual General Meeting of the Municipal District of Ballybay-Clones will take place in the Courthouse, Scotshouse Road, Clones on Thursday the 26th of June 2014, at 4:00 p.m.
